Nithya Menen was born in Bangalore into a Malayali family and studied journalism at the Manipal Institute of Communication. Her father’s family is from Calicut and her mother’s is from Palakkad. She wished to be a journalist once however fate led her to acting career.. It was Nandini Reddy (director), who “brainwashed” and convinced her to take up acting. Nithya's first movie as lead role was Seven O' Clock a Kannada movie. However she has earlier acted in a movie named The Monkey Who Knew Too Much (1998) as a child actress. The movie which changed her career for ever was Ustad Hotel.
